Questions people ask

How is this different from a personal alarm?
An alarm waits for something to go wrong and needs the person to press it. This is somebody turning up while everything is still fine, which is how you catch a problem while it is still small. Plenty of people have both, and they do different jobs.
What happens if you find something wrong?
It depends entirely on what it is. Something minor and we sort it there and then and tell you about it; something urgent and we get help. Exactly how you want things handled — who to ring, and in what order — is one of the things we write down with you at the start, so nobody is deciding it on the doorstep.
Carers have been refused outright. Would this be any different?
Often, yes, because it does not feel like being cared for. Nobody is doing anything to anybody, nobody is in the bathroom: it is a visitor calling round, nothing more. We have seen plenty of arrangements start here and grow into something more once the person decided for themselves that they liked the company.

How it works

  1. Have a chat

Give us a ring or send us a message and tell us what you’re finding difficult. There’s no obligation, and nothing to sign. If it’s urgent, say so: we can sometimes start straight away.

  2. Your first visit is free

We come out to you at home, meet you properly, and write down together exactly what help you want and when. There’s no charge for that visit whether or not you go ahead.

  3. Your assistant starts

Your assistant starts visiting on the days and times we’ve agreed together, and we stay in touch to make sure it’s working for you.
