What’s included

  • Planning it with you first: where, when, how long, and what the day needs to work
  • Somewhere you have picked, not somewhere off a list we hand out
  • Company for the whole of it, including the quiet bits and the sitting down
  • An arm on uneven ground, and a hand in and out of seats and doorways
  • Thinking through the benches, the lifts and the toilets with you before we set off
  • Coats, bags, tickets and change, and all the fiddling about that spoils an outing
  • Something to eat and drink while you are out, if that is part of the plan
  • Home again properly: coat hung up, kettle on, and you settled before we go

Who it’s for

  • Anyone who has quietly stopped going anywhere because arranging it became the hard part
  • People who used to go somewhere every week and have felt the loss of it
  • Someone in the earlier stages of dementia who still lights up at a place they know well
  • A relative who wants somebody to have a proper day out without having to organise and drive it themselves
  • People who are perfectly able to enjoy a day out but will not do it on their own

Questions people ask

What sort of places do people go to?
Whatever the person actually likes. Some want a garden centre and a scone, some want the market on a busy morning, some want to sit and watch the water for an hour. It does not have to be interesting to anybody but you.
How would we get there?
With us, in our own transport, as long as the trip fits our schedule that day. Tell us where you fancy going with a bit of notice and we will sort the journey out. The one exception is if you use a wheelchair, in which case we go together in a black cab and the fare is down to you.
Can somebody from the family come as well?
Of course. A lot of families use this exactly that way: they come along for the good part of the day while we do the watching, the fetching and the worrying, so they get to be family again for a few hours instead of the carer.
What if the day comes and there is no appetite for going out?
Then nobody goes, and nobody is talked into it. We stay in, make a drink and have the afternoon indoors instead. Some days are not outing days and pushing it would ruin the next one as well.

Not sure yet? These might help

How it works

  1. Have a chat

Give us a ring or send us a message and tell us what you’re finding difficult. There’s no obligation, and nothing to sign. If it’s urgent, say so: we can sometimes start straight away.

  2. Your first visit is free

We come out to you at home, meet you properly, and write down together exactly what help you want and when. There’s no charge for that visit whether or not you go ahead.

  3. Your assistant starts

Your assistant starts visiting on the days and times we’ve agreed together, and we stay in touch to make sure it’s working for you.
